Hong Music Art, GP DEVA and Sun Boy Cultural International jointly organized a charity concert where fascinating music filled the National Concert Hall on evening of November 1. The concert commenced in thunderous applause and encore. Attendees leaving the concert hall were still in a state of enchantment of the beautiful melodies and guests eagerly looking forward to the next performance!

Past nominee of the 18th Golden Melody Awards for “Best Traditional and Artistic Music Composer Award,” Professor Lee Sun-Don once again deeply captured the hearts of his adorning fans with his composition A Memoir of A Great Patriarch V - Violin Concerto No. 2 The Great Master20. The concert opened with Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, the First movement: Allegro con brio bringing the audience into high spirits with a vibrant atmosphere right from the beginning.

Biography

Original Composer: Professor Lee Sun-Don

Nominated in the 18th Golden Melody Awards for the “Best Traditional and Artistic Music Composer Award,” Professor Lee Sun-Don also has made remarkable achievements in the arts and in Buddhism studies. He is the first artist in Asia to hold a solo oil painting exhibition at the Venice Biennale in the past one hundred years. Professor Lee also has received the highest verification and authorization passed down from the second patriarch of Forshang Buddhism. The Violin Concerto No. 2 'The Great Master20'. The naming of the composition is a reference to Chuang Tzu's "Great Master" philosophies and is Lee's way to express his deepest respect to his most revered mentor. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the second Patriarch's perfect rest. To be able to have a special concert performing on 11/1, the day of his mentor's birthday, is particularly meaningful!



Conductor: Professor Chia-Hong Drapal Liao

Professor Chia-Hong Drapal Liao, the conductor and soul of Pro Arte Orchestra Taiwan, is also highly skilled at solo and orchestral performances, as well as conducting. The Washington Post praised him as, "Tremendously bearing the quality of a master, Liao is a musician having a musical style full of confidence and oriental charm."

Vienna Music Festival authoritative music critic M. Ruedenauer acclaimed Liao, "Imbued richly with the style of Vienna school, Liao's music is sensitive and delicate, having a wide and deep musical interpretation."



Violin Solo: Ashley Tong

Violin soloist Ashley Tong graduated from Yehudi Menuhin School, has received accolades and distinguished affirmations from numerous international masters including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra's Chief L. Klytchkov, University of Vienna Professor M. Frischenschlager, Slovenia Ljubljana School of Music Professor J. Brence, and others. Tong currently studies under Krzsysztof Smietana. The violin she played during the concert was the famed 1770's "Domenico Busan" violin generously sponsored by the Chi Mei Cultural Foundation!


Arranger: Teacher Pey-Wen Yen

The talented arranger for the evenings performance Yen Pey-Wen was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She was admitted into the Institute of Music of Taiwan Normal University in 1991 and majored in composition, studying under Professor Chen Mao-Xuan. In 1994 Yen was awarded the Austria ÖAD scholarship and sent to Vienna State Academy of Music sponsored by public funds, where she studied under Professor Erich Urbanner. Yen was nominated as “Best Traditional and Artistic Music Composer Award” at the 18th Golden Melody Awards for her work on A Memoir of A Great Patriarch'Suite for Violin and Orchestral Suite'.
